Cooking

As any of my friends know, I recently made the move from Ohio to Florida for a teaching job with my then boyfriend, now fiance.  When we first moved here we ate a lot of box meals and fast food and didn't do much cooking because of the cost.  Now that we are trying to watch our weight and get healthy and fit for the wedding we've been doing A LOT of cooking.  Which is great for me because I love to cook!  Unfortunately for John, I don't do a whole lot of measuring when I cook - I like the surprise...though I always taste test.  John is getting better with the no measuring as well...or at least he is with his Chili.

Yesterday we made our own breading for chicken and it came out really good.  Today we are making hamburgers and I just finished seasoning them and I think they are going to turn out really well.  Sunday is steak day, though and I need to come up with my own merinade for those (which hopefully will be just as tasty).  The only problem - I only know how to flavor food to make it spicy or more salt oriented (no, that doesn't mean using a ton of extra salt).  I'm going to try to learn how to make more tropical or sweet or sweet and sour flavors from now on.

Here's to a hopefully tasty dinner tonight and some actual time to work on my novel!

  1. well for a marinade and different flavor try adding different types of vinegar, or a hint of worcestshire sauce is good in a marinade you can even mix in your favorite steak sauce in the marinade for an extra zip. A lot of people marinade in soy sauce for steaks then for that sweet or sour flavor use like a pineapple juice or something similar...Hope it helps...
