This post was supposed to have come out on June 10th, but the flight was long, the waiting on the runway for twenty to forty minutes at a time and then all of the wedding events and planning that needed to be done, I didn't quite get to it until just now.
TEACHING!
Anyway, I officially survived my very first year of teaching. The last day was a bit odd because things didn't seem to want to work out, but when the end came to the day and I finally made it to the apartment, I had survived. Only one of my classes made me cry on the last day for students and that was my group in seventh period. They were a good group - when they weren't acting crazy, trying to get class off topic or argue about something they shouldn't try to argue about. One thing that will be taken from this year is that class discussions do work. Letting students discuss a topic and talk about it helps keep them interacting and quite a few of them did well on the tests that went along with the discusses that they had in class.
Now, next year might be difficult to. My classroom was moved upstairs to a MUCH smaller room that the teacher had issues being in last year. There are no fans and it is tiny - so cramming twenty-two seventh graders into is going to be interesting. She was able to do it, but you can't do a lot of movement in there, which is something that we did a lot of in geography class this past year. But, I will survive next year as well!
WEDDING!
We are two weeks and three days from tying the knot. In 17 days I will not be Ms. McAdoo anymore, but will be Mrs. Murphy. It is probably going to take some getting used to, but it is going to be exciting. We got a lot down while we were home last week, but still have quite a bit to do before the actual day of the wedding.
Today, we booked our cruise for our honeymoon. We will be going to Jamaica and Georgetown, Grand Caymans in the Cayman Islands. It is five days and we leave out of Miami on the 16th - very excited - neither of us have ever been on a cruise. It cost a pretty penny, but if you are going to spoil yourselves a little bit, I guess it should be on your honeymoon.
Everyone FINALLY has their shoes. Jennifer got hers yesterday - the pair that has gone missing three times. It was the sixth pair that they dyed. For those that haven't read previous blogs - Jenny bought her shoes in February, the first pair had huge splotches of white (weren't completely dyed); they lost the second pair and I'm sure they still have no idea where they went; the third pair they said had a spot after dying them; never told us what was going on with the fourth pair; the fifth pair had "glue issues"; and finally the sixth pair worked out...it only took David's Bridal in Austin, TX five months to get that one right. It was kind of a ridiculous situation.
Favors are ordered and being shipped. Most of the gifts are in our possession. We have toasting flutes and our server set, waiting on the sand ceremony set to get in. The bridesmaids are going to help put the finishing touches on the favors. So - as of right now - whatever happens will happen. Just got to go with the flow and hope everything works out for the best! :)
NOVEL!!!
I finished the novel - twice; but it is finished. Stacey has the only other copy and is currently taking out repeated words, fixing where I changed my mind but didn't take out the other words and making sure everything is the correct form/word. I finished it for the second time at BW3 in Beavercreek with Stace sitting next to me. It's my baby and, though it is biased, it has a really important moral that kids and adults need to read about.
If anyone has any good literary agents that might be interested in realistic fiction novel, I'd love for you to leave me a comment. I'm not expecting a huge return on it, but I want it to get out there and I want to have someone who will help it get out there. Just cross your fingers for me and maybe pick up a copy at your local bookstore if it gets published. :)
Okay - hopefully the next blog will be about something more uplifting instead of just a "let me update you on the goings of life". Got to get to packing, we're heading back to Ohio in the morning.
