Playing Catch Up

It has been a loooooonnnnnngggg year.  At this time last year, my biggest worry was finding my first teaching job.  Now I am coming to the end of my first year and my biggest worry is finishing out the next two days.  Everyone has always told me that the end of the first full year with a group of kids will be the hard one.  That a teacher will always remember that very first year and I can tell you that it is most likely true.

Tomorrow will be the last time that I have my group of kids from first period.  My first period kids have made me angry, they've made me want to pull my hair out, they've made me cry but they've also made me very proud.  There are some kids in that class that have done such a fantastic job and have improved their behavior and participation that it is amazing.  Less time was spent with anger and more time was spent with them taking an interest in what we were learning.  I'm very proud of them.  I woke up this morning and realized that I would only have them as students for two more days and I got a little teary-eyed.  I can not imagine what Thursday will be like.  I try not to say I have a favorite group of kids, but I'm really going to miss a lot of those kids.

Friday is going to start the beginning of a VERY busy month.  The last day for students is on Thursday, their summer vacation officially starts at 3:41 PM on June 9, 2011.  The first day of summer vacation for teachers starts (officially) at 4:00 PM on June 10, 2011.  The whirlwind of activity for me starts at 3:00 when Meredith drops me off at the airport.

The flight to New Hampshire for Paul's wedding takes off at 5:00 and I am supposed to land in New Hampshire a little after 10 at night.  Paul gets married on Saturday.  We're supposed to be visiting Boston on Sunday and then returning to Ohio on Monday.  We'll be in Ohio at least until the 18th, but I'm trying to get John to stay through Father's day on the 19th.  If we come back on the 20th - well be in Florida until the 23rd and then we have to be back in Ohio for my hair run through for the wedding on the 25th.

When we are finally back in Ohio, it is going to a whirlwind to get ready for the wedding.  We've got some last minute things to take care of and it can only be done while we're home.  So far mom has been doing a lot of the work for me and it is time for me to help out.  My summer wont actually start until July 10...lol.  John and I also still need to plan our honeymoon - yes, that's right, we have not done that yet.

Everyone asks me how I stay so calm - I'll let you in on a secret - I'M NOT!  I'm just very good at working through it and handling it.  I decided a couple of weeks ago that there was nothing I could do about certain things so why worry about them?  It'll all get done.

On the novel front - I've still got two chapters to work out.  I'm thinking the plane on the way to New Hampshire will be a perfect time to work on it.  Hopefully I can get it done before the wedding and at least put some feelers out.  :)
